
Alpenrose Piano Trio
The Alpenrose Piano Trio, comprised of Australian pianist Bernice Chua, Australian violinist Fiona Qiu, and Polish cellist Jan Łomozik, was formed at the Mozarteum University in Austria while pursuing their Music Master's degrees. They currently study chamber music under the guidance of Prof. Connie Shih and Prof. Cibrán Sierra Vázquez (Cuarteto Quiroga), and has also participated in numerous masterclasses with international artists, including Réka Szilvay (Sibelius Academy), Lily Francis (Mozarteum University), Tomasz Wabnic (Morphing Chamber Orchestra).
The trio has performed in notable concert halls across Austria, including Wiener Saal, Bösendorfersaal, and Solitär Halls of the Mozarteum University. Later this year, they are scheduled to perform at the Mozarteum University’s Faure Festival.

Bernice Chua
PIANIST
Bernice Chua, a recipient of the 2024 Ian Potter Cultural Emerging Artists Grant alongside Fiona, was awarded the Wesley Music Centre Scholarship and the Vivian Gough Memorial Scholarship at Canberra Girls Grammar School. She was a prizewinner at the WPTA Spain International Piano Competition, won the ArtSound ACT Young Virtuoso of the Year Award, and was a finalist for the National Young Virtuoso of the Year Award. Bernice is currently studying under Prof. Jacques Rouvier, Prof. Connie Shih, and Prof. Donald Sulzen, having previously studied with Prof. Andreas Weber and Prof. Bernadette Harvey.

Fiona Qiu
VIOLINIST
Fiona Qiu has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the QCGU Ena Williams Award, Owen Fletcher Prize, Basil Jones Sonata Prize, 4MBS & 3MBS Chamber Music Prizes, Barbara Hebden Bursary, Matilda Jane Aplin Prize, Vada Jefferies Prize, and the Nora Baird Bursary. She has performed with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and served as concertmaster for the Australian Youth Orchestra. Fiona currently studies with Prof. Lily Francis, following her previous studies at the Australian National Academy of Music with Dr. Robin Wilson and Prof. Sophie Rowell, and at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with Prof. Michele Walsh.

Jan Łomozik
CELLIST
Jan Łomozik is a laureate of over 30 national and international cello competitions, including the Grand Prix and six special prizes at the 2020 Prague International Cello Competition, second prize at the Polish National Cello Competition, and was a finalist at the International David Popper Cello Competition. He has received four scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage Poland and the Rector’s Scholarship from the University of Music in Łódż. Jan is a current member of the Morphing Chamber Orchestra in Vienna and studies under Professors Matthias Bartolomey, Tomasz Daroch and Wojciech Fudala.
Australian Tour 2024

In August, the Alpenrose Trio will embark on their first Australian tour, spanning seven concerts in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne. From the Residence of the Austrian Embassy in Canberra, Queensland Performing Arts Centre, and Tempo Rubato Melbourne, the Trio will perform a range of trios by Haydn, Beethoven, Faure, Brahms, and Shostakovich.
